LIVELY UP YOURSELF

HEN IT COMES TO LIVE MUSIC, Nevada County gets it. You’ll hear it
pouring out of our thriving cultural centers, nightclubs and world-class
outdoor festivals and you’ll even find it setting the mood in our coziest
little cafes. For those who love great musicianship, the pleasures of live music can
be the soundtrack of any visit to the region. From the top of the mountain in
Truckee to the serenity of the foothills in Penn Valley live music venues are in
abundance, especially in the t owns of Grass Valley and Nevada City. The restau-
rants of our county are especially in tune with creating a perfect dining atmos-
phere by employing the many talented singers and musicians who live here. And
when it comes to dancing, there are a wide variety of venues in which tail feath-
ers get shaken on a regular basis. Whether you’re looking for Folk/Americana or
Trance/Electronica our music scene has you covered.
Another great thing about taking in live music around here is that some of the
settings are nearly as entertaining as the music itself. If you love classic old hotels,
try The Holbrooke in Grass Valley or The National in Nevada City. If you’re
fond of winery or brewery ambiance, visit Pilot Peak or Naggiar Vineyard and
the Smith Vineyard tasting room or the Ol’ Republic Brewery. For jazz lovers,
check in at the Golden Era Lounge or Matteo’s Public in Nevada City or
Moody’s Bistro & Lounge in Truckee. Other classic night spots include Friar
Tucks, and The Crazy Horse Saloon, while there are newer places on the rise,
like The Haven Underground for cutting-edge acts and The Cottonwood
Restaurant in Truckee for the best in folk and acoustic music. So check the list-
ings on these two pages and lively up yourself in Nevada County.
