Check it out!
Located on Main Street, the Center provides a diverse array of programing
including music, dance, theatre, film, visual art, comedy, youth education and
literature. Featured are nationally recognized artists and the best of local talent
performing everything from hip-hop poetry to soul to jazz, country, blues,
zydeco and chanting. There is also an impressive offsite series. Past headliners
include Arlo Guthrie, Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Storyteller Garrison Keillor is
scheduled for October 15. The Center also sponsors the annual California WorldFest (see page 81).

St. Joseph’s Cultural Center Art Galleries
The Center is home to a variety of events including concerts,
dances and workshops. Located at 410 S. Church St., it also
features an historic rose garden. (530) 272-4725;

The North Star House
Completed in 1905, this California Arts and Crafts style
home was designed by Julia Morgan, the state’s first woman
architect. Built for a noted mining engineer and his
author/illustrator wife, The North Star House is listed on the
National and State Registers of Historic Places. Today, it is a
cultural arts center and location for a variety of community
events. The house is open to the public during the Nevada
County Growers Market (see page 23). Location: 12075 Old
Auburn Rd., off McCourtney Road.
