Start up for Basketball

By: Dawsyn Faulkner

With the season rapidly approaching, the eagle’s basketball team has a lot planned. The team has expanded their rosters with a variety of young athletes that are ready for the uptempo pace of a varsity game. It will definitely be exciting to see the eagles in action this year with all the young talent they’ve acquired. Coach Laurendine says this has been his “most enjoyable” group,he seems to be feeling great going into his third year at Shaw, and has great plans for the team in these upcoming years. All members have been working hard, giving 100%, to improve in all aspects of the game especially their ability to shoot the ball. The team has also appointed their first team captain this season as senior Shamar Slack (#15), he’s a great guy and will definitely be a tremendous role model for all the young players on the team, not only on the court but academically as well. Also new this year, the team wants to get the crowd more involved especially at home games this will include themed games, similar to the “Blackout game” they’ve had for the past two years. The reason for this is the players feast off the energy from the crowd, not many realize how much a crowd can influence a game. This year however the team won’t be able to wear their all black jerseys so instead they want to start a new tradition with this “White out game.” The eagle’s first official home game is Tuesday November 21st against John Ehret high school; however two weeks prior to this there will be an open scrimmage against Warren Easton Tuesday November 7th if you’d like to get an early taste of the action, feel free to come out and support!
