Susan G. Komen® Columbus, a longtime supporter of our Community Health Program’s efforts to improve women’s health in southern Ohio, awarded the college its largest Komen grant to date: $195,000 for the Healthy Adult Project: Breast Education Screening & Navigation Program, with an additional $40,000 awarded later in the year. This program targets medically underserved women in 18 Appalachian Ohio counties, with a goal of increasing access to breast health services and aiding in early detection of breast cancer. Since 2001, Komen Columbus has provided over $1 million in grant funding to the program. RECORD GRANT FOR BREAST HEALTH PROGRAM RURAL & URBAN SCHOLARS PATHWAYS PROGRAM CLASS OF 2018 78% MATCHED TO RESIDENCIES IN OHIO 67% MATCHED TO PRIMARY CARE RESIDENCIES 50% MATCHED TO PRIMARY CARE RESIDENCIES IN OHIO INNOVATIVE, ACCELERATED MEDICAL TRAINING The Transformative Care Continuum accelerates training from medical school through residency, with deep experiences with patients, health care delivery teams and community health at its foundation. Last year, faculty made final preparations to launch the program, and we recruited the first cohort of eight students, who will begin orientation in August 2018 and complete residency by 2024. Students will be embedded into Cleveland Clinic Lakewood Family Health Center or Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital just before they officially begin medical school, and they will progress at that same site through to graduation, residency and board certification. Cleveland Clinic has partnered with us to develop and deliver this demonstration project, which is also supported by the American Medical Association’s Accelerating Change in Medical Education Consortium. 19 IMMIGRATION FOCUS AT HEALTH POLICY DAY
