December 2018 Dear Friends, This report celebrates the achievements of our students, faculty and staff as we continue to address some of the most pervasive needs in the state and our nation. Having launched our Dublin and Cleveland campuses, over the past few years we’ve embarked on a journey of focused, accelerated change within the college to keep pace with the rapidly evolving environments for patient care. This year was the first year of executing on goals outlined in our 2018-2021 Strategic Plan. In this first year, some of our most exciting achievements are associated with our Workplace Excellence goals. We opened an Office of Inclusion with staff at all three campuses. Shared governance evolved within our college, with transformational changes made to the way we communicate, make decisions and execute on plans. Our plans for our new state-of-the-art medical education facilities at our Athens campus are taking shape – we will be the first occupants of the first new green Ohio University has opened in more than 60 years. We also made enormous strides toward our Optimized Student Experience and Transformative Education goals. Our faculty and staff have been working for years on the comprehensive redesign of our curriculum. This year was the critical run-up to the August 2018 launch of our new Pathways to Health and Wellness Curriculum, as well as the Transformative Care Continuum in affiliation with Cleveland Clinic. A WORD FROM THE EXECUTIVE DEAN The graduation of the first class of students to train at our Dublin campus was an overwhelming success. We thank our pre-eminent education partner, OhioHealth, as well as the many other clinical partners in central Ohio and the city of Dublin who have made medical education possible for our graduates. Our greatest thanks, though, goes to the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation for making possible the Dublin campus. Our first graduates from Dublin are living testaments to the Foundation's vision and their mission “to improve the quality of life in our communities … consistent with our osteopathic heritage.” This year, we also celebrated the retirement of one of the greatest supporters of the Heritage College – Richard Vincent, now chief executive emeritus of the Osteopathic Heritage Foundations. Mr. Vincent has been a steadfast champion of osteopathic medical education and a towering visionary on behalf of our college. Mr. Vincent consistently challenged college leadership, faculty, students and staff to “… be more and do more than we know.” His critical, discerning insight has been invaluable to our accelerated growth and renewal. As we continue our work with the Osteopathic Heritage Foundations, I welcome the leadership of their new president and CEO, Terri Donlin Huesman. Alongside Mr. Vincent, Ms. Donlin Huesman has been a committed advocate for our college and integral to our successes. I am excited to work with her as we continue to address the most pressing health care delivery challenges in Ohio. KENNETH H. JOHNSON, D.O. CHIEF MEDICAL AFFAIRS OFFICER, OHIO UNIVERSITY, AND EXECUTIVE DEAN, OHIO UNIVERSITY HERITAGE COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE 01
