DUNES CONSERVATION

The natural sand dunes that line the gorgeous shores along Scenic Highway
A1A are more than massive piles of wind-blown sand. Natural dunes play a
much larger part in beach conservation than most beach-goers might
expect, which is why we have to do everything we can to protect them.
Our coastal lifestyle depends on the natural dunes for a variety of reasons.
They provide the first line of defense against ocean storms for our homes,
restaurants and businesses, as well as inland and coastal ecosystems.
Dunes create the signature coastline and beautiful beaches that attract
locals and visitors alike. They also provide homes to plants and animals
such as the legally protected, nesting sea turtles that grace our shores.
Together, we must create a culture of respect for the beaches, so we can
continue to restore them and revive them for generations to come. Let’s
protect the dunes as carefully as they protect us! Help us Dodge the Dunes.

Did you know that dune grass grows by the inch, but dies
by the foot and it only takes ten steps to destroy it!
