He loved his horses and all the friends he made. Thank you! In 1957, they had a complete dispersal sale, selling 120 shetland ponies in Perry, Oklahoma, setting a world record with a stallion they raised named Crescent Gold Dust. That world record held for many years in the shetland pony industry. Harold always wanted to farm. In 1958, following the sale, Harold moved his family to Auburn, Nebraska, bought a farm, built a home and feedlot to follow his dream. Harold’s Obituary follows: Harold Francis Lowrey, 87, of Nebraska City, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City. Harold was born on March 2, 1928 to Oliver J. and Lucy (Gorton) Lowrey. Harold graduated in 1945 from Nebraska City High School. Harold was a 75 year member of the Presbyterian Church, and a 60+ year member of the Nebraska City Masonic Lodge. He received the Nemaha County Soil Conservation award and also won the Outstanding Young Farmer award. Later he joined the Nebraska City Shiners Club and was an active member of the AMHA and the AMHR. In 1946, Harold married the love of his life, Lillian Rae Baker. Together, they had three children, Bill, Frank and Bob. Shortly after they were married, Harold joined a partnership with his brother, Gene and father, Oliver and built Lowrey’s Good Butter Shop, Lowrey Produce, and the Lowrey Shetland Pony Farm, all in Nebraska City. He loved working with the Shetland ponies. In 1991, Harold and Lil retired from farming and followed his love of raising Miniature horses. They raised and won several National Champions and made many friends along the way. He became known as the “Little Horse Man.” Harold was inducted into the AMHR Hall of Fame in 2006. He once said he loved all phases of farming and especially the Miniature horses. A stud named Chocos Little Specks Red Boy was Harold’s pride and joy. He loved his horses! Harold and Lil finished their journey at the Nebraska City Ambassador where he made many friends. Survivors include sons Bill & wife Dora Mae of Omaha, NE; Frank & wife Doris of Branson, MO; and Bob & wife Judy of Auburn, NE; six grandchildren Pat (Joyce) Lowrey and Paula (Brent) Wieck, both of Omaha, NE; Stephanie (Stan) Lingenfelter of Mt. Vernon, MO; Jay (Elida) Lowrey of Weslaco, TX; Bobette (John) Guenther of Auburn, NE and Laura Lea (Jeff) Fossenbarger of Johnson, NE; 12 great grandchildren, sisters in law Billie Lowrey of Kansas, Marian Shutt and Vivian Stierwalt, both of Merced, CA, many nieces, nephews and friends. Harold was preceeded by his wife Lillian in 2008, parents Oliver and Lucy Lowrey, sister Doris Hobbie, brother Gene Lowrey and brother in law Don Hobbie. Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Childrens Hospital, AMHA (American Miniature Horse Association) and the HUA (Hearts United for Animals) at Auburn.
