BOBETTE POSTED:
Just wanted to let you all know
that my Grandpa Harold Lowrey
passed away this afternoon. Can you please
spread the word for me? He loved his horses
and all the friends he made. Thank you!
In 1957, they had a complete dispersal sale,
selling 120 shetland ponies in Perry, Oklahoma, setting a world record with a stallion
they raised named Crescent Gold Dust. That
world record held for many years in the shetland pony industry.
Harold always wanted to farm. In 1958, following the sale, Harold moved his family to
Auburn, Nebraska, bought a farm, built a
home and feedlot to follow his dream.
Harold’s Obituary follows:
Harold Francis Lowrey, 87, of Nebraska
City, passed away on Monday, December 21,
2015 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.
Harold was born on March 2, 1928 to Oliver J. and Lucy (Gorton) Lowrey. Harold
graduated in 1945 from Nebraska City High
School.
Harold was a 75 year member of the Presbyterian Church, and a 60+ year member of the
Nebraska City Masonic Lodge. He received
the Nemaha County Soil Conservation
award and also won the Outstanding Young
Farmer award. Later he joined the Nebraska
City Shiners Club and was an active member
of the AMHA and the AMHR.
In 1946, Harold married the love of his life,
Lillian Rae Baker. Together, they had three
children, Bill, Frank and Bob. Shortly after
they were married, Harold joined a partnership with his brother, Gene and father, Oliver and built Lowrey’s Good Butter Shop,
Lowrey Produce, and the Lowrey Shetland
Pony Farm, all in Nebraska City. He loved
working with the Shetland ponies.
In 1991, Harold and Lil retired from farming and followed his love of raising Miniature
horses. They raised and won several National
Champions and made many friends along the
way. He became known as the “Little Horse
Man.” Harold was inducted into the AMHR
Hall of Fame in 2006. He once said he loved
all phases of farming and especially the Miniature horses. A stud named Chocos Little
Specks Red Boy was Harold’s pride and joy.
He loved his horses! Harold and Lil finished
their journey at the Nebraska City Ambassador where he made many friends.
