Ask Home Workout Equipment for Minis Q. Who do you ask when you need advice? Jacob Elliott and Richard Erickson are just beginning their journey into the Miniature horse realm, but they showed good “horse sense” and asked for advice before buying a big ticket item they needed for their Double E Ranch in Galt, CA. Jacob put a call out on Facebook asking what work out method/ equipment would help keep their Miniatures in shape. Advice from their peers poured in on what would work best for their needs as they are amateur showmen and work their horses for show at home. Time management and safety for the horses were priority when considering their options. FACEBOOK POSTS: Jeanine Hassing: Walker Debbie Grayson: We use a round pen but my favorite thing to use is a good trainer! John Gracey:  Hot Walker. You can work more horses at a time. Cart Au g u s t / S e p t e m b e r 2 0 16 Bonnie Sweeney MacLeod:  Golf Cassidy Blanton:  Eurociser best of both worlds. Multiple horses, don’t have to be tied, and it’s more cardio than a hot walker. Either way you still need someone there who can put the horse on it. Amanda Barnhill Benton: I have a treadmill but wish I had a hot walker. Kelsie Deitch Sherman:  Hate treadmills. Wrecks hips and knees Sami Scheuring: I agree and shortens the stride. Kevin Tanja Lathouwers: Horse walker. We just installed one that works six horses at the same time. It gives you time to put horses on while mucking out stables. Another not mentioned idea is the principle of pasture paradise. Let pastures touch each other as much as possible so that horses can get in contact with as much horses as possible so they will continue to move. Gator. 56 Miniature Horse World The Trainer Kristina Slobody: John Deere Avery Rowland: We love our free walker! Better than a hot walker because the horses don›t need to be tied and better than the treadmill because you can exercise multiple horses at once. walker. Lynne Francis: We use a hot- Becky Kelley Larrison: I have a 4-horse walker, 3 speeds, with a reverse... but I also do round pen lunge to get them to do roll backs, etc. The hot walker has saved me a lot of time! I would love a free walker but my pocket book couldn’t afford that! Wade Burns: Have seen horses with very bad legs that had been worked on a treadmill. We used treadmills for dogs and they are called trotters and it does work well for dogs but I would never use them for horses. Tina Fisseler: I agree Wade I saw them too....I would NEVER use a treadmill on a horse younger than 3 years old. We used them only for our driving horses. If you want to let your horse look the best you have to work them in a round pen and the hot walker and the treadmill only completes your training program. Sorry but you win your class at home which means hard work and being well prepared. Kathy Kropp: Golf cart Ann Dwyer: Hot walker or golf cart. Prefer a hot walker!
