Community Supported Agriculture ( CSA )
What is a CSA ?
Community Supported Agriculture ( CSA ) is a way to bring fresh produce from the farm to your table each week . You pledge your support to a farm by purchasing a CSA for the season , and they pledge to provide fresh food to you weekly . By purchasing a CSA you are becoming a part of a CSA community that provides mutual support and shares the risks and benefits of food production .
Is a CSA For Me ?
A CSA allows people to have direct access to high quality , fresh produce grown by regional farmers and is a wonderful way to get more vegetables into your diet . You will be exposed to new

vegetables and often times be given recipes or ideas on how to cook them . Farmers love having their CSA members visit the farm so consider taking the family out to see a working farm .
What do I get ?
You receive a weekly box of fresh food for 18-20 weeks during June- October . Shares include a variety of greens and vegetables . Some farmers offer the option to add eggs , flour , flowers or meats . Small shares typically feed 2-3 people while large shares can feed a family of 4 or more .
What is the cost ?
Depending on the size you choose , CSA ’ s can range
anywhere from $ 350-700 for the summer . If you aren ’ t able to pay for the up-front cost all at once , many farmers accept payment plans and offer work-for-trade options . You can also pay with your SNAP benefits by using your card in exchange for tokens which you then use to pay the farmer at the Bend , Redmond and Madras Farmers Markets ( see page 22 – SNAP page ).
