4. Do not attempt to carry on a discussion or conference with the teacher. The teacher’s responsibilities are to the pupils and the instructional program. Appointments with the teacher to discuss your observation may be made in the office. Please remember that classroom observations provide only a snapshot in time. They are a limited view of a complex series of interrelated experiences and activities. It is assumed that all observers will have the integrity to discuss questions with our professional staff. Our interests are mutual. Classroom Interruptions One of our goals at BR FLAIM is to enable teachers to teach and children to learn. In order to accomplish this goal, we are always looking for ways to protect our valuable instruction time from unnecessary interruptions. Parent requests to get messages to their child or the teacher have a significant effect on the teacher’s ability to keep focused on instruction. We ask parents to assist us in minimizing these interruptions. • Please do not call to the office to relay messages to your child unless it is an absolute emergency. • Before children leave for school, inform your child any change in plans for after school or dismissal including who will be picking them up or whether they will be riding the bus or waiting for carpool. • Be sure your child understands lunch plans and has lunch money or a lunch if required. • Check that your child has their homework, book sack and all necessary materials for their day at school. If you will be picking your child up before the regular dismissal time or during the day for an appointment, please send a note to the teacher with the specific time you will be picking them up. Come to the office, not the classroom, at the designated pick up time. The office will call for your child. BR FLAIM PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK 29
