SYMPOSIUM
Double Exposure combines the nation’s only investigative film festival
with a professional conference. It connects investigative journalists and
filmmakers with the aim of fostering collaboration and giving them access
to the skills and people -- editors, producers, funders and others -- who
can help bring investigative film projects to fruition.
In its second edition, the festival’s Symposium will take a closer look at
the most pressing issues of our day, and explore how major news stories
captured on film are translated -- or generated -- in the visual realm.
Panel discussions with front-line reporters and filmmakers will examine
race and police conduct, prisons, the “Panama Papers” and tax havens.
Other panels will tackle investigations that germinate through personal
experience, navigating the terrain in the wake of privately-financed
investigations, and concepts of truth in film and print-based journalism.
A second track of workshops will focus on nuts-and-bolts issues, like fact
checking and opportunities to hear from leading funders in this space.
The Symposium this year includes “lightning talks,” where journalists and
filmmakers who are working on cutting-edge projects and important new
initiatives can share their work with colleagues and the public.
