THE GIRLS OF

SUMMER

City Hosts National All-Girls Baseball Tournament in July
More than 100,000 girls play youth baseball across the country , but only 1,000 girls end up playing high school ball . What happens to those 99,000 players ? Their love of baseball doesn ’ t just go away , nor does their talent .
In partnership with San Francisco Recreation and Parks , Baseball For All hosted its 2016 National Tournament at Moscone Recreation Center from July 23-28 . This was the largest all-girls baseball tournament in the country and represented a huge step toward building girls baseball leagues nationwide .
Twenty teams and more than 200 players , ages 8 to 16 , from across the country and Canada participated in the tournament . San Francisco was represented by more than 50 girls playing for SF Bay Sox teams .
Rec and Park is proud to continue to support programs and events like the Baseball for All tournament to continue to provide equal opportunities for girls to play ball and to realize their potential .
Throughout the year , Rec and Park provides opportunities for girls to play and compete in a variety of sports . Programs include basketball , softball , volleyball , track and field , golf and soccer . The Department also holds girls sports clinics several times throughout the year , during which athletes of all abilities can try out different sports , meet other athletes and receive instruction from coaches .
