Welcome

Dear Park Loving Friends ,
Welcome to San Francisco Recreation and Parks ’ 2016 Community Report , through which we are pleased to share with you highlights and accomplishments from this past year on behalf of this nation ’ s best urban park system .
No doubt , 2016 will be remembered as a difficult year . November ’ s election has raised serious questions about the direction of our nation and how new policies may affect our City .
For this reason , our local public parks and the values they stand for are more important than ever . Our parks celebrate our diversity and foster community . Our parks offer joy and respite . Our parks inspire play and connect us to nature and each other .
From the passage of Proposition B in June and the approval of the Natural Resources Management Plan in December , to Outside Lands and the largest all-girls baseball tournament held right here in San Francisco , it ’ s been an exciting year at Rec and Park ; 2016 was a galvanizing year for our parks , full of pride and progress .
None of these accomplishments would be possible without the hard work and determination of our staff , and I want to take a moment to acknowledge all of their efforts .
We also want to thank all of you , who continue to be passionate about our parks , who continue to advocate on behalf of our parks and who continue to help us steward our parks . We should all be proud of our work , together .
May 2017 bring San Francisco ’ s parks more inspiration , connection and play .
Warmly ,
Phil Ginsburg , General Manager
