Other Park Openings

Noe Valley Town Square- San Francisco ’ s newest park and home of the Noe Valley site that was formerly a gas station and parking lot along the 24th Street Commerc lish a public open space at the site evolved through more than five years of collabo community group Residents for Noe Valley Town Square ( RNVTS ); then-Supervisor and the San Francisco Parks Alliance . In June 2013 , Supervisor Wiener authored leg City ’ s Open Space Acquisition Fund that led to the purchase of the site by Rec and
The project replaced the asphalt parking lot with a flexible , open plaza that accomm and other community events . The design also features a perimeter edge garden , ch other site furnishings , landscaping , irrigation and lighting .
The $ 2.8 million capital project was funded largely from a Land and Water C in the amount of $ 740,000 as well as City funds secured by Supervisor Wiene
Gilman Playground- The Recreation and Park Department , along with Mayor Ed L city officials celebrated in June the opening of Gilman Playground in the Bayview n renovation made possible by the voter-supported 2012 Clean & Safe Neighborhoo
The entirely new play area includes two composite play structures complete with a a zip line . The underlying rubber surface depicts a shoreline setting in reference to San Francisco Bay .
In addition to playground improvements , Rec and Park installed Greenfields Outdo five exercise stations , made possible in part by a $ 5600 grant from Greenfields . The fitness equipment brings a social , multi-generational element to public spaces whe casual users can use the equipment .
Beacon Trail- In July , Rec and Park officially opened the Beacon Trail , which connec Hill . The $ 147,000 project , made possible by the Open Space Fund Undesignated C two parks with 680 feet of trail comprised of 560 feet of earthen trail and 120 feet o included entrances and erosion control .
This project directly addresses two key parts of the Department ’ s strategic plan : Inc parkland and maintaining San Francisco ’ s urban trail network , and strengthening t facilities . Through trails , Rec and Park supports a healthy lifestyle and giving residen on paved roads .
The project was community-driven with support from the Friends of Walter Haas P Community Association .
