Future of the Band

By: Quincy Evans and Huey Campbell

On Thursday, May 11, 2017, the 2016-2017 Shaw Eagle Band will hold its last performance, the Spring Concert and Award Ceremony. Here, the band will perform its three concert pieces and a few other pop songs that will entertain the crowd. If there aren't enough songs to play, then the jazz band will step up and play their song from the Solo and Ensemble Festival. Once all the songs have been played, the band and everyone else is welcomed to watch the band video of all the moments where the band laughed, cried out in anger, or did other things that were memorable. The show doesn’t end there, because after the video, the award ceremony will take place ranging from 8th through 12th grade most excelled, to perfect attendance, to best overall. The band members will also be given the medals that they have earned throughout the school year, presented by Band Director Mr. Guy Wood. This is also when he will announce the drum major for the 2017-2018 school year. After that, the Spring Concert and the award ceremony is over,

The 2017-2018 Shaw Eagle Band is born and is christened by its performance at the Archbishop Shaw High School Class of 2017 Graduation. From then on, the band will begin again its cycle of halftime shows, Christmas concerts, Mardi Gras parades, and competitions. However, it will consist of new members and be led by a new drum major. Also, the 2017-2018 school year will be Mr. Wood’s fiftieth (and possibly final) year of teaching and directing. Thank you Mr. Wood for fifty excellent years of service to the musical education of students.
