Out of my entire experience at Shaw, the only thing I regret is hearing anyone complain about this, that, or the other concerning Shaw because I wholeheartedly enjoyed my years at this school.

I remember waking up everyday during the weekday at 5:00 A.M. From then to 6:45 A.M., I would study or put the finishing touches on a paper. Afterwards, I went to school. Everyday was hard work, some more so than others, but I was always thirsty for knowledge. My personal favorite classes were biology, Advanced Placement American History, and Calculus I. I enjoyed all my classes, but these three subjects, in particular, I was most fascinated with.

During my high school career, I was in a number of extracurricular activities, but I want to focus mainly on my life blood: the Archbishop Shaw Eagle Band. Everything I remember about afterschool is the band: Band Camp in the heat of July; practice every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with occasional special practice on Monday; marching on the football field; donning a black suit to perform on stage; the Mardi Gras parades; the band trips; the competitions; everything. I am blessed to have worked with talented, kind peers. I am blessed to have increased my proficiency in playing both the saxophone and tuba. I am blessed to have held the title and responsibility of band captain and drum major. Finally, I am not only blessed, but I am also thankful and humbled for having practiced and performed under the direction of Mr. Guy Wood, the most gifted and determined man I have met in my life.

I thank God everyday for attending Archbishop Shaw High School. Like any other school, it isn’t perfect, but it feels like a second home to me with the kind teachers, interesting classmates, and gold-hearted religious brothers and priests.
