WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO DO
FPSSM - THE FOUNDATION FOR
THE PRESERVATION OF THE
SANTA SUSANA MOUNTAINS
The Foundation for the Preservation of the Santa Susana
Mountains (FPSSM) was formed as a nonprofit in 1974.
It was largely responsible for the acquisition of land and
California State Parks dedication of the Santa Susana
Pass State Historic Park in 1998. When the park was
threatened with closure in 2011, due to budget cuts, the
Foundation stepped forward and became a “Cooperating
Association” with the CA Department of Parks and
Recreation to assure that our park would remain open.
Today the Foundation focuses on training new volunteers
and supporting the ongoing Santa Susana Volunteer
programs: Interpretive Heritage hikes for elementary
schools and the community; graffiti abatement;
propagation of native plants and invasive-plant removal;
trail maintenance; and overall monitoring of the Park.
The Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park was created by
the community out of love for its history and heritage.
FPSSM is proud to continue in footsteps of those that
walked before us. We welcome all who will help us
continue our programs and our efforts to preserve and
maintain this priceless asset in our community and
our lives.
FPSSM Mission
We partner with California State Parks to protect and
enhance the Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park
