Benson ( Loganville , Georgia ) was nabbed in the 20th round by the St . Louis Cardinals Wednesday .
A consensus First Team All-American , Benson hit . 395 with 22 home runs , 79 RBIs and 74 runs scored in the 2017 season . The consensus Region Player of the Year and Peach Belt Conference ( PBC ) Player of the Year , he also tallied an . 819 slugging percentage and . 464 on-base percentage . The two-time All-PBC shortstop ended his career on a 17-game hit streak and boasted 22 multi-RBI games on the season , including seven with four RBIs or more . Benson was named a finalist for both the Tino Martinez Award for DII Player of the Year and the Josh Willingham Award for DII Most Valuable Player .
Benson was the 204th pick overall , as now GC Baseball has had 17 student-athletes all-time chosen in the MLB Draft . The senior shortstop is the first draftee for the Bobcats since catcher Richard Pirkle ( 2008-11 ) in 2011 , and the highest-round choice since pitcher Andrew Reichard ( 2007 ) went in the 13th in 2007 .
The Seattle Mariners took Hoover in the 21st round with the 633rd pick . A junior shortstop from Appling , Ga ., he becomes the third Nighthawks taken in the MLB draft in the last four years .
The 2015 PBC Freshman of the Year , Hoover hit . 361 with a . 704 slugging percentage . A second-team All-Conference selection , he hit 18 home runs which was tied for second in the PBC . He was also second in the league with 74 RBIs and ranked in the top 10 triples , total bases and on-base percentage . He also led the league in runs scored and walks .
Hoover was equally impressive in the field , leading the PBC with 183 assists at shortstop and fifth in double plays turned .

DALLAS ( NCBWA ) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on Apr . 25 . University of South Carolina Aiken junior infielder Brian Parreira is the National Hitter of the Week , while Felician University senior pitcher John Holland is the National Pitcher of the Week .
Parreira ( Annapolis , Md ./ Mount Saint Mary ’ s ) hit . 706 in four games with a 1.588 slugging percentage as the Pacers went 4-0 . The senior from Annapolis , Md ., set a new conference-games record as he scored six runs in the second game at Montevallo . He hit four home runs and drove in 17 in the four games , nine of those in the three matchups at UM . He opened his week with a home run and six RBIs against Newberry . He was 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs in game one at Montevallo , and had another four hits and two home runs in the series finale , including the game-winner in the
