teur
NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. – Recent Flagler College graduate Mi-
chael Boss qualified for the United States Amateur after finishing
in a tie for fourth place with a 2-over par 142 at a qualifying
tournament which concluded Wednesday afternoon.
Boss is the first Flagler golfer to qualify for the U.S. Amateur
since the program moved to NCAA Division II in 2008-09. The U.S.
Amateur will take place Aug. 15-21 at the Oakland Hills Country
Club in Bloomfield Township, Michigan.
The Lewistown, New York-native opened with a 1-over 71
in the first round which was played at Aronimink Golf Club and
followed that up with another 1-over 71 yesterday at the White
Manor Country Club.
“It was tough coming down the stretch. I saw my name on the
leaderboards,” said Boss who is currently working on the grounds
crew at Niagara Falls Country Club. “This is my first U.S. Amateur
so I’m pretty excited.”
Boss earned first-team All-Peach Belt Conference honors after
finishing in fourth place with an even par 216 at the conference
championship. He was second on the team with a 73.23 strokes
per round average and has three top five and four top 10 finished
this past year. Boss was an Academic All-Conference honoree as a
senior.
Kyle Sterbinsky, a rising junior at Wake Forest University, was
the medalist at the tournament with a 3-under 138. Michael
Davis of Princeton University, Matt Oshrine of Duke University
and Henry Shimp of Stanford University will join Boss at the U.S.
Amateur.
