P B C Y E A R B O O K 40 USCA Named Academic National Champions; GSW All-Academic in Men’s Golf Norman, OK – The University of South Carolina Aiken men’s golf team has been named Academic National Champions for NCAA Division II as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Pacers had the highest overall team GPA in all of Division II for the National Champions award, the first for the program or any PBC men’s golf team. Georgia Southwestern State was also recognized as a GCAA All-Academic Team. A record 208 teams submitted GPAs of 3.00 or higher to earn all-academic team recognition. USCA and GSW were two of only 42 Division II teams on the list. To be eligible for GCAA all-academic team honors a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. 2016-17 Men’s Golf Postseason Awards PBC Elite 15 Award Presented by EAB Justin Wood, Montevallo DII PING All-Region Team Ethan Chamineak, Georgia Southwestern Keith Egan, Clayton State August Lindvall, USC Aiken Michal Pospisil, Lander Conor Richards, Lander David Wallin, Young Harris Flagler’s Michael Boss qualifies for the U.S. Ama- teur NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. – Recent Flagler College graduate Mi- chael Boss qualified for the United States Amateur after finishing in a tie for fourth place with a 2-over par 142 at a qualifying tournament which concluded Wednesday afternoon. Boss is the first Flagler golfer to qualify for the U.S. Amateur since the program moved to NCAA Division II in 2008-09. The U.S. Amateur will take place Aug. 15-21 at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. The Lewistown, New York-native opened with a 1-over 71 in the first round which was played at Aronimink Golf Club and followed that up with another 1-over 71 yesterday at the White Manor Country Club. “It was tough coming down the stretch. I saw my name on the leaderboards,” said Boss who is currently working on the grounds crew at Niagara Falls Country Club. “This is my first U.S. Amateur so I’m pretty excited.” Boss earned first-team All-Peach Belt Conference honors after finishing in fourth place with an even par 216 at the conference championship. He was second on the team with a 73.23 strokes per round average and has three top five and four top 10 finished this past year. Boss was an Academic All-Conference honoree as a senior. Kyle Sterbinsky, a rising junior at Wake Forest University, was the medalist at the tournament with a 3-under 138. Michael Davis of Princeton University, Matt Oshrine of Duke University and Henry Shimp of Stanford University will join Boss at the U.S. Amateur. 2016-17
