Flagler Claims PBC Men ’ s Cross Country Championship
Flagler ’ s Brian Beil was voted the PBC Coach of the Year by the league ’ s head coaches following the event . The award is his first .

MILLEDGEVILLE , GA – Flagler College placed four runners in the top 15 and won the 2016 PBC Men ’ s Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning in Milledgeville . The title is the first in men ’ s cross country for the Saints , who held off second-place Montevallo and third-place Augusta University . Flagler finished the event with 56 points .
Augusta and UNC Pembroke were tied with 92 points apiece in third place , but Augusta claimed the spot on their own with the NCAA tiebreaker .
Young Harris ’ Tim Asis won the PBC Individual Championship , covering the 8k course at the Council Farm in 24:42.6 . That is the 10th-fastest time ever run in a PBC Championship event . The sophomore from Eldoret , Kenya , was 10 seconds ahead of Armstrong State ’ s Henning Schein . Montevallo ’ s Donny Barnes was third with the Augsuta duo of Dylan Forester and Daniel Broadhead finishing fourth and fifth . The top 15 runners were named PBC All-Conference . Flagler ’ s Kray Hubner finished seventh overall and was the first freshman to cross the line and earned PBC Freshman of the Year honors . Hubner ran the event in 25:33.6 and became the first Saint to be named the Freshman of the Year since Corey Mundy in 2011 .
YHC ’ s Asis , Armstrong ’ s Schein Qualify for NCAA Men ’ s XC National Championship
MONTEVALLO , ALA – Young Harris ’ Tim Asis and Armstrong State ’ s Henning Schein were among the top three runners not on an advancing team at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship on Saturday in Montevallo , Ala . The two runners will advance to the NCAA National Championships in Saint Leo , Fla ., on Nov . 19th .
Asis , the PBC individual champion two weeks ago , finished second overall with a time of 30:02.4 on the 10k course at the University of Montevallo . He was just 13 seconds off the lead set by Mount Olive ’ s Adam Craig and finished two seconds ahead of Mt . Olive ’ s Jonathan Dahlke . Asis becomes the second straight Young Harris runner to qualify for nationals after teammate Mathew Biwott did it last year .
Schein becomes the first Pirate men ’ s cross country runner to ever advance to the nationals as he finished fifth overall in a time of 30:37.7 . He bested the Armstrong State school record in a 10k by more than two minutes in the process and set a personal best at that distance . The Vellmar , Germany , native joins three Armstrong State women ’ s runners - Gabi Hauck ( 1994 ), Patty Kaplan ( 1995 ) and Nikki Garland ( 1997 ) - as the only Pirates to represent the school at the
