Montevallo Wins Third Straight PBC Women ’ s Cross Country Title
MILLEDGEVILLE , GA – The Montevallo women ’ s cross country team placed four runners in the top five and five in the top seven in a dominating win at the 2016 PBC Championships on Saturday in Milledgeville . The Falcons 19 points is the lowest total in PBC history and their 61-point margin over North Georgia the largest winning margin . UNG placed four of their five scoring runners in the top 20 for second place while Augusta was third and Flagler fourth .
UM ’ s Cheyenne Thompson won the PBC Individual Championship in a time of 21:43.8 , the third-fastest 6k time ever run in the PBC . Thompson finished in second place in 2013 and 2014 and becomes only the 10th PBC women ’ s runner to ever be named All-Conference four times .
Thompson edged teammate Katie Nelson , who was 24 second behind . North Georiga ’ s Brittany Truitt was third just three seconds behind Nelson . Montevallo ’ s Katherine Terino won a sprint to the line , edging teammate Anne Leinheiser by three-tenths of a second to claim fourth place . The top 15 runners were named to the All-Conference team .
Augusta ’ s Pricilla Cartwright was 11th in the individual standings and was the first freshman to finish the race , earning her PBC Freshman of the Year honors . She becomes the first Jaguar to claim that
honor since Savannah Sutton in 2008 .
Montevallo ’ s Tommy Barksdale was voted the PBC Coach of the Year for the third straight season . The Falcons , ranked # 19 in the nation , will defend their NCAA Southeast Regional championship in two weeks , they will host the regional on their home course in Montevallo , Ala .
Montevallo Wins Third Consecutive Southeast Region Championship
MONTEVALLO , Ala . – The University of Montevallo women ’ s cross country team claimed its third consecutive NCAA Division II Southeast Region Cross Country Championship on its home course Nov . 5 .
The Falcons edged runner-up Queens University by six points in the team standings after featuring five of the top 15 runners in individual standings in the event . Montevallo , ranked No . 19 nationally in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association ( USTFCCCA ) NCAA Division II poll , is headed to the NCAA Division II National Championship for the third year in a row .
Also advancing to the national championship will be Georgia College ’ s Katherine Yost . Yost was one of the top three individuals not on an advancing team . The junior finished sixth overall in a time of 21:45.0 . Mt . Olive ’ s Lean Hanie , who won the event , and
