Martin returns as one of NU’s top vaulters. 2014 • Redshirt freshman Season Martin stepped up as a three-event competitor for Nebraska in her first season of competition, consistently contributing on vault, bars and floor. Martin was a key performer on vault as she did not miss a meet on the event all year and achieved her career-high mark of 9.95 against Arkansas, when she took second place behind Jessie DeZiel, who put up a 9.975 score. Martin earned her best mark on bars against Minnesota with her unique routine, notching a 9.825. As a floor worker, she showed steady improvement all season long and claimed her high mark at the NCAA Semifinals (9.85) to propel the Huskers to the Super Six Finals the next day. finishes on vault, beam and floor en route to victory. A competitor at the 2010 Junior Olympic Championships, Martin finished third in the Junior D division all-around with a score of 38.300. Her third-place finish included second on vault and fourth on floor. Personal The daughter of Glenn and Rosalind Martin, Ariel was born March 9, 1994 in Chicago, Ill. She has one brother, Glenn Martin Jr. Ariel is an advertising and public relations major at Nebraska. 2013 • Freshman Season A powerful performer on floor and vault, Martin sat out the 2013 season due to injury. Before Nebraska Martin joined the Huskers after training at the Illinois Gymnastics Institute under Todd Gardiner. Martin was a key member of IGI’s two state championship teams in 2009 and 2011, but also achieved a great deal as an individual. She had an excellent showing at the 2011 Region V Championships, finishing first in the all-around in the Senior B division, scoring a 38.050.
