2015 • season outlook
One of Nebraska’s most decorated returners in 2015,
Jessie DeZiel (pronounced Duh-ZEEL) enters her final
season at NU hoping to put an exclamation point on a
fantastic four-year career. Coming off a remarkable junior
season, DeZiel will lead the team on all four events.
2014 • junior season
DeZiel had an outstanding junior campaign for the
Huskers, continuing the dominance and consistency she
displayed in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The seven-time
All-American defended her status as one of the nation’s
best all-around competitors by capturing 10 event titles,
including two in the all-around and five on vault.
She capped her season at the 2014 NCAA
Championships by putting together a stellar performance
to place eighth overall in the all-around competition
(39.50). DeZiel was also an integral part of the Huskers’
historic beam lineup, where she posted a 9.90 to earn
first-team All-America status and fueled the Big Red to
its 11th Super Six appearance.
DeZiel took home her second consecutive regional
vault title with a score of 9.95, while also placing third
in the all-around to help the Huskers reach the NCAA
Championships. She captured NACGC/W second-team AllAmerica honors on vault for her efforts during the regular
season as she tallied her career-high 9.975 score twice.
At the conference level, DeZiel claimed first-team AllBig Ten and Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors after
winning the Masters Classic all-around crown (39.525).
At the Big Ten Championships, DeZiel tied for second on
bars with a 9.90 and third on vault hitting a 9.925 score.
She collected All-Big Ten Championship team honors on
both events.
2013 • Sophomore Season
DeZiel reinforced her claim as one of the nation’s
top all-arounders in 2013, notching a 12th-place allaround finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships to
become a second-team All-American in the all-around
and on beam. DeZiel was the 2013 Big Ten runner-up in
the all-around (39.625), tied for second place on floor
and also earned the vault title. She competed as one
of NU’s three all-arounders at the NCAA Morgantown
Regional, posting a 39.200 and winning an ensuing
tiebreaker to qualify for the NCAA Championships as an
individual competitor.
DeZiel was a first-team All-Big Ten pick for the second
year in a row and earned NACGC/W first-team AllAmerica honors on vault and the all-around.
