NATIONAL EVENT STRUCTURE 3. SCHOOL SPORT AUSTRALIA Australian School Surfing is an approved sport with School Sport Australia (the governing body of school sport in Australia). It is administered by one delegate (teacher) from each State and the National Secretary (appointed by School Sport Australia). Eligibility To compete in school surfing you must be an enrolled student in an Australian school. Confirmation from your school must be seen before you can compete. All public Australian schools are affiliated with their State sport organisation. If you attend a private/independent school your school must be affiliated with your State organisation in order for you to be eligible (except for Tasmania which doesn’t have a State sport organisation therefore you only have to prove you are going to school to be eligible). Age Groups U/19 Boys & Girls U/16 Boys & Girls Age is from 31st December in the year of competition. Each state has its own methods of selecting their school teams but basically to be selected to represent your state at the National Titles you must surf through regional and state competitions (check with the relevant person in your state). All states are encouraged to bring a student official. Format There are two divisions within the National School Titles. 1. The MR Shield: Two surfers from the same school representing their state and their school. 2. The Allstars: Can be two surfers from any school representing their state and their school. States can nominate three surfers as a pair in any of the divisions. www.surfingaustralia.com 25
