Program Director James A. Lacy is a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has a long history as a skilled clinician providing crisis intervention and psychotherapy to children, adolescents and families and groups. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Virginia State University and a Masters of Social Work Degree from Adelphi University. In addition, he has served as Executive Director of the Economic Opportunity Commission (EOC) of Nassau County, Clinical Director of Roosevelt Community Mental Health Center, and for several years, chaired the Nassau County HIV Commission. With his strong mental health clinical background, he directed, coordinated and supervised mental health programs for Family and Children Association’s Roosevelt Counseling and Resource Center, Harlem Dowling – Westside Center for Children and Family Services, Runaway Youth Coordinating Council in Hempstead, NY, and North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center in Roslyn Heights, NY. Most recently Mr. Lacy has served as the Leadership Training Institute’s Internship Coordinator, and has also provided consultation on program development, in addition to his having served as one of this agency’s Program Directors. He, for many years, served as President of the Nassau/Suffolk Chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers and Chairman of the Board of Director of the Uniondale Early Childhood Center. He has provided field instruction for social work students from several colleges and universities, and does consulting with service agencies and organizations regarding program and staff development, in addition to currently serving as the Mental Health Director of My Time Has Come™ and Program Director for Your Time For Creative Empowerment, Inc. Prior to his human services career, he served for two years in the United States Army as a Medical Administrative Officer where he attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Lacy has also been the recipient of numerous awards and citations for community service. As an accomplished singer, songwriter and acoustical guitarist, Mr. Lacy writes and performs songs intended to inspire young people. He has composed several songs including the My Time Has Come theme song (hear song chorus at www.mytimehascome.org) and a wedding song entitled, Smile for Me (search “James A Lacy” on www.youtube.com, which he sang as his bride walked down the aisle at their wedding. He has performed several benefit concerts at venues such as the Hofstra University Student Center Theater, Freeport Yacht Club and Union Baptist Church in Hempstead, New York. These concerts have been fund raisers for organizations such as Operation Get Ahead, Inc., Union Baptist Church Building Fund, Uniondale Early Childhood Center and Nassau Suffolk Chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers. He has performed on programs at numerous churches and at special events such as the Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday celebration programs, Kwanzaa programs, Town of Hempstead African American History Month Program and political campaign fund raising events. He has been called upon to sing at weddings, funerals, memorials and private parties. During speaking engagements he often provides a unique twist by incorporating the performance of relevant songs into his presentation.
