Q: What are you currently studying at university?
A: I am studying civil engineering.
Q: What exactly is civil engineering and why did you
want to study that?
A: Well… Civil engineering is designing and constructing
new buildings, and I think the area is fascinating and
think that I could do a lot with it in the future.
Q: How did you hear about the Riverside Tree Program
and how did you become a scholarship receiver?
A: Actually, I came to know the program through my dad and
my older brother. My dad is a pastor of a small church here
in Lima, and my older brother, Josue, is actually part of the
program as well. I almost had to give up my dreams of going
to university, but through my brother, I came to know this
Riverside Tree Program and applied and was chosen!
Q: Could you tell me a little bit more about your church
and how you serve?
A: I love children and I love doing anything with them:
supporting them, playing with them, encouraging them, teaching
them, anything! So currently I am helping teach Sunday school.
Also, these children love to dance, so I started a choreography
team to teach them body worship and praises.
Q: That is amazing. How are you going to tie in what you
are learning in the university with the church and how you
are going to serve God?
A: Well actually, with my career, I would be able to construct
more churches. I know many churches in this area are not built
in the correct way and are falling apart, and I want to be able to
serve God by building new churches.
Q: And how has Riverside Tree helped you through this
process?
A: The program has helped me in many,
many ways. However, it’s mostly helped me mentally,
emotionally, and spiritually. Without the program, I think I
would be in a depressed stage and probably would have not
been as active in serving God and would have had maybe
doubts. However, God provided and I am happy to be able to
be doing what I am doing now.
Q: Do you have any other words to say?
A: I just want to thank God for this opportunity. I also want to
share what God has done in my life so that I could plant new
seeds in the other people out there.
Help

There are two Riverside Tree candidates
that are in need of your help! These
candidates were in college but because
of financial problems they are no longer!
Please read about them below and

help!
Diego Ibañez
Diego had a very
comfortable job.
However, when he
refused to partake
in the alcohol and
partying when his boss asked him to
join, that decision cost him his job. But
Diego would rather obey the teachings
of God than to succumb to the world.
He attended the Peru to Christ ABBA
conference in 2005 and was the lead
singer at the 2010 ABBA conference.
He is studying music. Diego needs
approximately $150 per month for
tuition, supplies and travel expenses.
Alvaro Davalos
Alvaro comes from a
rough past. His father
left him when he was still
a child. He was raped as
a child and as a teen, his
depression and confusion caused him to
join the neighborhood gang. Y
