SPEAKER BIOS
BRENDA JONES, communications director for Rep.
John Lewis for 11 years, has worked with Hollywood
film producers, documentary film and radio
producers, and many TV, radio, and print journalists
to tell the congressman’s story. She began her career
in public broadcasting and radio and had stints in
commercial TV at CBS and ABC networks.
DAVID KAIRYS, a law professor at Temple
University, specializes in constitutional law and civil
rights law. He has won numerous awards for his work,
including the Alliance for Justice honor list for 2008
and the Association of American Law Schools 2007
Deborah Rhode Award for extraordinary contribution
to public interest by a law professor.
CYNTHIA KANE works as senior commissioning
producer in Al Jazeera America’s Doc Unit. Previously,
she was at ITVS (Independent Television Service)
managing the international initiative for funding, and
also supported the domestic funding initiatives. She
worked at Sundance Channel and co-created DOCday
during her 10-year tenure there.
ROSS KAUFFMAN was the director, producer,
cinematographer and co-editor of Born into Brothels,
which won a 2005 Oscar for Best Documentary.
