greater & greener parks conference It was with great pride and honor that we hosted Greater & Greener 2015: Innovative Parks, Vibrant Cities, an international conference focusing on issues and opportunities facing urban parks and green spaces around the world, in April. Presented in partnership with the City Parks Alliance and several Bay Area park management districts, Greater & Greener 2015 featured more than 150 speakers and more than 1,000 participants from 200 cities and 20 countries. The conference included more than 80 sessions, park tours, and events over a four-day period, allowing participants to share the innovation that is taking place in cities throughout the world and creating a foundation for exploring new policies, new funding, and new partnerships to support city park creation, management and stewardship. GREATER & GREENER WELCOME VIDEO In the conference’s opening keynote address, California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom reaffirmed his support for legislative funding for park systems given the important role parks play in fostering healthy, resilient and sustainable communities. In a special mayor’s forum, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee joined Ed Murray of Seattle, WA; Betsy Price of Fort Worth, TX; and Knox White of Greenville, SC in a discussion on how city parks have played an integral role in their cities’ recent economic success.
