My internship at Waverly Early Head Start Center of Goodwill
gave me the opportunity to learn many things that I could
have never learned from a textbook, not just about low‐
income families with young children in Baltimore and the
struggles they face, but also about the strong network of
people that serve this population. I developed strong,
meaningful relationships with both the staff and the families
at Waverly. From assisting in planning and executing events,
to developing a tracking system for home visits, to actually
getting to observe the home visits, my experience here has
been truly comprehensive. Every day, I had the chance to
work directly with our families and build relationships with
them. Working with our clients has forced me to reconsider
preconceived notions about low‐income families in
Baltimore, and has opened my eyes to different sides of this
issue that I otherwise never would have considered. I am
truly grateful to both Waverly EHS of Goodwill and CIIP for
giving me the opportunity to participate in such a unique and
special program.‐Ellie
