What is Thread ? Thread uses a “ family‐style ” approach to foster the transformation of both underperforming high school students and university‐based Volunteers into self‐motivated , resourceful , and socially aware leaders committed to a higher purpose of their own .
My summer experience with Thread was amazing and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity with the help of CIIP . As a volunteer with Thread for nearly 4 years , I have had the chance to meet wonderful people , including a dedicated staff and supportive volunteers . The daily interactions I have with students and the ability to form life‐long relationships has been the BEST part of my experience with the organization . As a Thread intern , I was able to work side‐by‐side with an amazing staff and a fellow intern to ensure that our students were employed and / or enrolled in summer school . As a team , we were able to provide our students with opportunities that equipped them with skills and knowledge they can take with them as they continue on their academic and professional journeys . The highlight of my summer was helping one of our students graduate from high school . For many of us , this seems like a simple task , but this student has faced so much adversity in his short life , including a difficult home life and incarceration . Despite all the challenges , he was able to preserver and is now a high school graduate ! To be a part of such a large and special event in this young man ' s life is something I will never forgot . This is just one of many stories and every day I was able to work with students , some I have worked with for years and some I have worked with for just a few days , but it was nothing short of wonderful every time . I have learned so much from each and every one of them and I am so thankful that Thread and CIIP allowed me to make an even greater impact on Baltimore City and our future generation .
