What is the Maryland Hunger Solutions?
Maryland Hunger Solutions is a project dedicated to fighting hunger and
improving the nutrition, health, and well‐being of children and families in
Maryland
While my time as an intern was only but a short period of time, I can assure you
that I am walking away with nothing but fond memories, and incredible
experiences. Reflecting on my experiences at Maryland Hunger Solutions has
allowed me to become more aware of how valuable this opportunity has been. I
met so many incredible people, learned so many fascinating things about hunger
in Maryland, and developed a heart for anti‐hunger work. It was amazing to see
how a staff of only six people could accomplish so much towards the goal of
ending hunger in Maryland, purely through their incredible passion and consistent
diligence. The people at work really showed me how important it is to love what
you do, and to truly care about the issues you are advocating for. This is just one
of many things that I was able to learn during my time as an intern. Another thing
that I learned was how to be flexible and up for anything. Rolling with the
punches and prioritizing tasks is a crucial skill for any intern, since we are charged
with the task of providing support for the whole team. I also quickly learned about
the importance of being vocal about questions or problems that might arise. Jump
on opportunities to refine your understanding of the issues at hand, and know
that your co‐workers are (more often than not) willing to help. And while keeping
all these things in mind, it is so necessary that you enjoy your work. Every little
thing matters. No matter how small or tedious your tasks might seem when
looking at the small picture, don't forget that in the grand scheme of things, you
are making a vital contribution to the larger cause. ‐ Lani
