2015 Beef Checkoff Annual Report | Page 18

Trends in Checkoff Spending The charts on this page demonstrate trends in how the checkoff is investing producers’ and importers’ dollars and through which contractors. In fiscal 2015, the checkoff worked with a total of eight beef contractors and subcontractors — American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture; American National CattleWomen; Cattlemen’s Beef Board; Meat Import Council of America; National Cattlemen’s Beef Association; National Livestock Producers Association; North American Meat Institute; and the U.S. Meat Export Federation (subcontractor to NCBA). You can see clearly that an increased percentage of the checkoff budget is going to foreign-marketing efforts managed by subcontractor USMEF, because that is where the greatest opportunities for long-term growth lie, given that 95 percent of the global population resides outside of the U.S. USMEF Percentage of CBB Budget 2008-2016 Percentage of CBB Budget by Activity 2008-2016 20.00% 6.00% 18.00% 16.00% 4.00% 14.00% 2.00% 12.00% 0.00% 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 USDA Oversight Evaluation Producer Communications 2013 2014 2015 2016 Program Development Admin 10.00% 8.00% 6.00% 4.00% 2.00% 0.00% 2008 Other Contractors 2.50% 2.00% 1.50% 1.00% 0.50% 2008 2009 AFBFA 2010 2011 ANCW 2012 MICA 2013 2014 NAMI 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 NCBA Percentage of CBB Budget 2008-2016 3.00% 0.00% 2009 2015 NLPA 2016 80% 78% 76% 74% 72% 70% 68% 66% 64% 62% 60% 58% 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 Revenue & Expenditures In fiscal 2015, beef producers and importers in the U.S. invested $41.8 million into programs of beef promotion, research and information, as directed by the Beef Promot
