Trends in Checkoff Spending
The charts on this page demonstrate trends in how the checkoff is investing producers’ and importers’
dollars and through which contractors. In fiscal 2015, the checkoff worked with a total of eight beef
contractors and subcontractors — American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture; American National
CattleWomen; Cattlemen’s Beef Board; Meat Import Council of America; National Cattlemen’s Beef
Association; National Livestock Producers Association; North American Meat Institute; and the U.S. Meat
Export Federation (subcontractor to NCBA). You can see clearly that an increased percentage of the
checkoff budget is going to foreign-marketing efforts managed by subcontractor USMEF, because that is
where the greatest opportunities for long-term growth lie, given that 95 percent of the global population
resides outside of the U.S.
