PBC YEARBOOK Volleyball 2 5 Y E A R S Flagler Sweeps USC Aiken in PBC Volleyball Tournament Final AIKEN, S.C. – Taja Valmyr recorded a match-high 15 kills and hit .375 to earn tournament MVP honors and help Flagler College win its fourth Peach Belt Conference Volleyball title, its first since 2011, with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 26-24) sweep of top-seed and host University of South Carolina Aiken Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center. “Playing USC Aiken eight days ago really helped us today,” said Matt Affolder, head coach of the Flagler volleyball team. “Megan Hooks and Taja played well against USC Aiken last week and they did the same today. Tara Savisky did a great job quarterbacking the offense and had a couple of key kills and aces.” Flagler improves to 23-7 while USC Aiken, the PBC regular season champion, drops to 27-5. Today’s loss was only the second this year for the Pacers at home as they entered with an 18-1 record and this was just the second time this season USC Aiken was swept (at Francis Marion, Sept. 19). Both teams will sit back and await the announcement of the NCAA Division II Tournament pairings on Monday (Nov. 23) at 7:30 p.m. on ncaa.com. There will be eight eight-team regionals set up and Flagler joins Erskine College, the Conference Carolinas tournament champion, as automatic qualifiers. The South Atlantic Conference tournament championship will be decided tomorrow (Nov. 22) at 2 p.m. That winner will secure the final automatic berth. Five at-large berths 2015-16 will be distributed as selected by the regional advisory committee.
