Edwards went 30-10 in 2013 with a 1.91 ERA, becoming only the fourth
Husker pitcher with a 30-win season. In addition to ranking fourth in school
history in wins, Edwards was seventh in shutouts (10) and complete games
(30) and eighth in innings pitched (253.1). She earned Big Ten Pitcher-of-theYear honors after compiling a conference-low 1.98 ERA in a league-high 95.1
innings during Big Ten play.
She also continued to excel offensively, batting .286 with 11 doubles, 11
homers and 26 RBIs in 2013.
Thomason & Taylor Edwards Joined 30-30 club
Brooke Thomason and Taylor Edwards each eclipsed 30 career doubles
and 30 career home runs in 2013, becoming the fourth and fifth members,
respectively, of Nebraska’s 30-30 club. Edwards and three-time All-American
Ali Viola are the only players in school history to join the 30-30 club prior to
their senior season. Taylor’s twin sister Tatum enters the 2014 season with 28
career doubles and 32 career home runs.
Thomason finished with 12 doubles, nine homers and 58 RBIs in 2013.
Fueled by her power, she became the first player in school history to produce
four 30-RBI seasons, and she was also the first player to hit at least seven
home runs all four seasons of her career.
Thomason & Taylor Edwards Set Class RBI Records
Brooke Thomason led Nebraska with 58 RBIs in 2013, while Taylor
Edwards was second with 54 RBIs. Thomason produced the most RBIs by a
Husker senior, while Edwards produced the most RBIs ever by a Husker junior.
Together, Edwards and Thomason produced only the seventh and eighth 50RBI seasons in school history. They joined the 1996 tandem of Ali Viola and
Jenny Smith as the only Husker teammates to each produce 50 RBIs in the
same season.
Taylor Edwards Set NU Record, Tied NCAA Mark
Taylor Edwards put together one of the most impressive individual
performances in school history during a 13-4, five-inning victory over IllinoisChicago on Feb. 9. Edwards had two grand slams and eight RBIs in the win.
Her eight RBIs set a school record, and her two grand slams were a first in
school history. Edwards was just the fourth player in NCAA history to hit two
grand slams in the same game and the first since Holly Krzan of UAB did it
against Nicholls State on Feb. 17, 2007.
The school-record eight-RBI performance against UIC helped Edwards
produce 54 RBIs in 2013, the highest total ever by a Husker junior. It also
marked Edwards' second 50-RBI season of her career, as she joined threetime All-American Ali Viola as the only Huskers to produce more than one
50-RBI season. Edwards enters the 2014 season with 159 career RBIs, the
fifth-highest total of any player in the country.
