Season outlook
Kat Woolman will push for playing time on a talented 2014 Husker roster. A high school
infielder, Woolman will work in the outfield this spring, as Nebraska’s infield returns all
but one starter from last year’s Women’s College World Series squad. In the outfield,
Nebraska must replace two lost starters from a year ago, giving Woolman an opportunity
to compete for a starting spot. Woolman started five games in right field during the
Huskers’ fall season.
Woolman batted .470 in her high school career with 39 doubles, 20 home runs and
128 RBIs, a Nebraska Class B record following her career. She was named the honorary
captain of the Lincoln Journal Star Super State team as a senior after leading Pius X High
School to the Class B state championship. In a public intra-squad scrimmage last fall,
Woolman went 4-for-5 with three RBIs against a Husker pitching staff that ranked 15th
nationally in ERA last season. Woolman then went 7-for-17 (.412) with a double and an
RBI in Nebraska’s eight-game fall exhibition schedule against Division I opponents.
Six talented student-athletes will join the Nebraska softball team for the 2014-15
season. The 2015 freshman class consists of four Nebraska natives, an infielder from
Missouri and a pitcher from Texas.
Kaylan Jablonski (Omaha Skutt), Gina Metzler (Papillion-La Vista), Taylor Otte (Wahoo)
and Madi Unzicker (Millard South) represent one of the top collections of in-state talent
in Nebraska high school history, while Laur H
