29 bases in 30 attempts, while scoring 48 runs. She delivered in clutch situations, batting .750 (18for-24) with runners in scoring position.
As a junior in 2011, Stokes batted .631, collecting 53 hits in only 84 at bats. She added seven
triples, three doubles and one home run, while totaling 48 runs scored, 29 RBIs, 23 stolen bases and
a .686 on-base percentage. Stokes was also clutch at driving in runs out of her leadoff spot, batting
.871 (27-for-31) with runners in scoring position.
Her 48 runs scored were a school record, topping her mark from the previous season, while her
average and on-base percentage both ranked second in school history, trailing only the marks from
her sophomore season. Her 53 hits also ranked second in Olathe East history and were just two shy of
the school record set by former Kansas Jayhawk Val Chapple. Stokes also drew 17 walks as a junior,
the second-highest total in school history behind only Teddi Ewing, a four-year starter for Michigan
from 2006 to 2009. Stokes was named an NFCA first-team All-American as a junior.
Stokes was a second-team All-American as a sophomore in 2010. As a sophomore, Stokes batted
.653 (49-for-75) with three doubles, two triples, 41 runs scored, 10 RBIs, a .710 on-base percentage
and 28 stolen bases in only 29 attempts. She set school records for batting average, on-base
percentage and stolen bases.
As a freshman, Stokes immediately earned the starting job in center field, as well as the role as
the Hawks’ leadoff hitter. She batted .532 (33-for-62) with 26 runs scored, 11 sacrifices, seven stolen
bases and a .568 on-base percentage.
In her high school career, Stokes helped lead Olathe East to a pair of regional championships and
three top-five finishes at the Kansas 6A state tournament, including the 2012 state championship,
when the Hawks ranked 13th nationally. Olathe East owned an 88-10 record during her career. Stokes
played her travel ball for the DeMarini Zephyrs.

Career capsule
Kiki Stokes started 58 of Nebraska’s 61 games as a freshman in 2013. She started a team-high
45 games in center field, while also making 13 starts in left. Stokes was also the Huskers’ primary
leadoff hitter as a freshman, hitting in the top spot of the order 39 times. She excelled in the leadoff
role by ranking third on the team with 26 walks and leading NU with 13 stolen bases. Stokes also
posted a .403 on-base percentage in 2013, while ranking third on the team with 40 runs scored.
After an outstanding start to her freshman season, Stokes finished with a .264 batting average.
Like many slappers, Stokes had to adjust to the speed of the college game and superior defending on
the infield. Her numbers compared favorably to the marks from Anne Steffan’s freshman season, the
last Husker slapper to earn All-America accolades. Stokes boasted a batting average 64 points higher
than Steffan’s freshman mark, while scoring 23 more runs and stealing three more bases. Stokes also
has the ability to hit for power, slugging two home runs in 2013, including a 10th-inning, walk-off
home run against New Mexico State.
Freshman season [2013]
Stokes was Nebraska’s primary leadoff hitter and starting center fielder in 2013, earning both
prominent roles despite her freshman status. Stokes started 58 games, including 45 starts in center
and 13 starts in left. She was in the starting batting lineup for 44 of her 58 starts, hitting leadoff in
39 of those starts. Stokes batted .264 on the season with a triple, two homers and nine RBIs. She
showed good patience at the plate, drawing 26 walks to tie for third on the team. She led Nebraska
with 13 stolen bases and ranked third on the team with 40 runs scored, while her on-base percentage
was over .400. Stokes’ 13 stolen bases were the sixth-most by a freshman in school history, and the
most by a Husker freshman since 2000.
Stokes’ career got off to an outstanding start, as she hit .366 in the month of February and
enjoyed a season average at or above .400 for 12 of Nebraska’s first 15 games. She began her
career with back-to-back multi-hit games, going 5-for-10 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored
on the opening day of the season. Stokes picked up two more three-hit games during an outstanding
second weekend, when she went 8-for-12 (.750). She also drew five walks in five games the second
weekend, highlighting a streak of 10 consecutive games where she drew at least one walk and a
career-opening streak of 13 straight games reaching base safely.
After going 4-for-8 with three runs scored and three stolen bases in a doubleheader at Oklahoma
State on March 3, the speedy Stokes showcased her power over the next two weeks. She hit her
first career home run – an inside-the-park shot – at Wichita State on March 9 to break a 1-1 tie in
the seventh inning. One week later, Stokes blasted a walk-off, three-run homer in the bottom of the
ninth inning to power the Huskers past New Mexico State. Both of her two home runs in 2013 were
game-winning homers in the seventh inning or later.
Stokes produced nine multi-hit games and two multi-RBI efforts in 2013. She also drew at least
one walk in 22 games, while scoring at least one run in 27 contests. Stokes drew multiple walks on
three occasions and scored multiple runs in nine games.
Defensively, Stokes committed four errors in the outfield, although she owned a 1.000 fielding
percentage in left field and made several diving plays down the stretch.
