2014/15 University Hospital Foundation Annual Report: Supporting Worl | Page 4
Message from the
chair and the president
The mission of the University Hospital Foundation comes down to one word:
impact. And a critical fact: impact is a result of your tremendous support.
Thanks to your generosity we raised $24.6 million (net) during the 2014-2015 fiscal
year in support of patient care, advanced technology, and clinical research at the
University of Alberta Hospital, the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, and the
Kaye Edmonton Clinic. We invite you to review our full financial statements,
beginning on p. 37.
Throughout our 2014-2015 Annual Report you will find stories of impact; of lives
changed and saved through community support.
You will read about exciting progress we are making in our Brain Centre
Campaign, and new technology that is changing the way patients facing
debilitating brain conditions are treated. You will learn how your gifts have
enabled doctors at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute to save the lives
of critically ill patients who are too sick to get to the Maz in time, and about
research that is changing the future of cardiac care. You will see how vital
your gifts are to advancing patient care and research throughout the entire
University of Alberta Hospital site – from gastroenterology, to transplant,
to dialysis.
And you will see how the University Hospital Foundation is building on a
foundation of excellence, made possible by your generosity.

In 2014 the Festival of Trees celebrated 30 years of bringing the spirit of
Christmas – and the spirit of philanthropy – to Edmonton. Bigger and better than
ever, we celebrate the 2014 Festival of Trees and salute some of our most
dedicated volunteers.
What makes patient care world class?
Generous donors who desire to make the greatest possible impact on the
University of Alberta Hospital site;
Dedicated Trustees, staff and volunteers who are committed to ensuring that
the gifts we receive have the greatest possible impact on patient care. This year
we especially thank outgoing Trustee and Past Chair Guy Scott, and welcome our
new Board Chair, Bob Bessette;
