Built-in shelves in the
upstairs playroom keep
books and games off the
floor (in theory). Bright
pink glass tile in the children’s bathroom (below)
is pretty and playful.
“I wanted a place that was conducive to three young children,” says the
homeowner. “Homes get used hard
when children are young. Old homes
have character, but aren’t designed
for kids.”
The home she and her family ended
up with has the character they wanted
with the space and flow they needed.
While finishes and details are high-end,
the house looks livable rather than
breakable.
A bright play area upstairs feels
more like a loft space than a bedroom,
its openness and position at the end of
the hall near the laundry room is the
ideal spot for disarray — for kids to be
kids. Built-in shelves provide storage
for toys and books. But in here, the floor
works okay, too. n
