PH /E 1907-44 INTERESTING GROUPING OF MILITARY THEMED STATIONERY & ESSAY ....................... PH $250-350 Assorted postal stationery items obtained post-war by American Army Captain who was Chief of Fiscal Bureau in the Department of Communications during 1946. Includes: (1) Four different 1907 Patriotic postcards showing naval leaders, ships and flags, each with violet chrysanthemum cachet showing Meiji year 40 (2) Two privately produced letter sheets with two picture postcards attached inside. Each card with solider scene (with bayonet by Great Wall and soldiers firing and advancing in field) and matching card with home front scene (two girls in traditional dress with binoculars, aircraft overhead and two girls reading letter from front, with flag). Both intact, with marginal gum, postcards attached inside, very fine. (3) Miniature sheet of five each of two different ESSAYS, both showing ‘battleship, rising sun and aircraft’, format similar to wartime definitive sets, in bright red, without gum, some margin creases. (4) two unused 1½s blue postal cards (Higgins & Gage #45). Overall very fine and attractive grouping. $300 Cover from ‘Farmacia Coloniale’ to Berlin, franked with three different surcharged issues, tied by three strikes 3/17/23 Mogadishu cds. Stamps sound, fine; cover with couple margin nicks. (Sassone #26-28 €€454=US$595) – ITALIAN OFFICES ABROAD – CHINA – KOREA – 2390 2386 Eleven (x11) First day covers plus one Special Event cover, on long Japanese envelopes with official first day cachets in violet or red. Includes Liberation set (Scott #61-66) on individual covers, First Anniversary dove (#67), Flags (#68), Alphabet (#74) and combination FDC with #75-77 (cachet for #77 International Mail Service commemorative). Additional FDC for 25ch commemorative postcard (KPC catalog CPC1) with added stamp #67, a striking patriotic picture postcard showing liberated Koreans holding flags, walking over Japanese flags and broken chains. Plus Special cover franked with #68, 72, 75-76 and two #77 tied by two different commemorative cancels, appearing to honor airmail flight to USA, dated Aug 7, 1947 (used stamps alone catalog $64). Stamps with typical centering and perfs, very fine. Korean CV for FDCs only. PH $1200 Cover franked with #29 tied by light 7/31/22 cds, additional E2 surcharged Express and mute Registration label. Stamp sound, fine to very fine, not valued on cover in either Scott or Sassone; Express has upper right corner missing, valued at $2000 and €€2750 respectively. On back are various transit markings: 9/24 Brindisi; 9/25 ‘Amb Brindisi-Napoli’; 10/11 Washington DC; 10/13 Atlanta receiver. Very fine and scarce cover. 2391 TURKEY 2387 1909 SPECTACULAR REGISTERED COVER FROM JERUSALEM TO MUNICH ........................................ PH $7500 A spectacular Registered cover from Jerusalem to Munich franked with 7 different Italian Offices in Jerusalem stamps (Scott #1-7), neatly tied by six strikes 3/22/09 ‘Gerusalemme/ Uff. Postale Italiano’ cds (Bale #502). Registration label with handstamped ‘Gerusalemme/Uff. Postale Italiano’ affixed nearby (Bale #R-51) and valued on cover by Bale as R2, the second rarest scale (estimated value US$20,000-$30,000). Other markings include black ‘84’ on front and three different Italian transit marks on back. Cover is an oversized Registered cover properly dispatched and delivered abroad with total franking of 28½pi. Very fine.
