Two used stamps, added to stampless cover to France. Cert
reads ‘The stamps did not originate on this cover.’ That said,
stamps are quite nice, both lightly canceled, with fresh color,
#12 with large margins all around, #34 recut at top, 3 large
margins, perfs just into design at right. Cat value for used
stamps $3200. (1987 PF Cert #185167).

Scarce multiple of 3 tied to cover by blue town cancel (likely
Cincinnati). Addressed to wealthy riverboat captain Ulysses P.
Schenck, who owned half of Vevay, Indiana. Stamps fine to
very fine with typical margins. Backflap mostly gone, few edge
faults, pencil marks on back indicate positions 86-95-96R1L.

Aug 24, 1857, black ‘New-York’ cds. Writer represents foreign
bondholders in New London, Willimantic & Palmer Railroad
(CT). Early use, just one month after earliest known use.
Stamps with typical fine centering, vertical file fold affects left
stamp otherwise cover very fine. Cat $2950.

Top margin single centered to the left, showing Type II
characteristics as well as part of top sheet margin. Stamp tied
by Boston grid, with circular Sept 6 ‘BOSTON’ marking
nearby. Scarce variety and use. Cat $1500.

Very fine centered pair on cover, tied by Dec 8, 1855,
‘SAVANNAH 3 PAID’ marking, addressed to New Ross,
Ireland. Cover also bears red ‘3’ and red ‘Dec 23’ ‘PAID IN
AMERICA’ Liverpool marking. Reverse side bears green Dec
24 marking (no city) and GREEN Ross, Ireland, CHRISTMAS
DAY 1855 postmark. Right stamp in pair is affected by crease.
Still pretty cover with many interesting markings.
