Cat $295. 1946 FIRST REVENUE ISSUE 3s VIOLET, FULL PANE, TRIAL PRINTING ....................................................... PH $7500 Incredible full pane of 100 with wrong overprint applied! A unique trial printing. According to The Korean Revenue Stamp Catalog, The Korean Standard Stamp Catalogue, Standard Catalogue of the Japanese Revenue Stamps and Barefoot, the current 3 sen violet Japanese Revenue stamp was overprinted in black by the American Military Administration with four Korean digraphs reading ‘Choson Government’ and a black curved bar obliterating ‘Japan’ at top. This pane, however, has the overprint that was intended for the 5 sen stamp in the set. This overprint has a rectangular bar at top rather than a curved one, and a thinner font for the digraphs. None of the catalogs above mention this trial printing. This pane was obtained in 1946 by a U.S. Army Captain who served as Chief of Fiscal Bureau in the Department of Communications. The pane has full original gum, never hinged, with full selvage and imprint at bottom, no perf separations but it has been previously folded in half. Very fine. This is likely the only known pane with an incorrect overprint.
