ATTENTION FALL & WINTER SPORTS! 2014-2015 Athletic Scholarships In March, head coaches of fall and winter sports will receive the 2014-2015 Athletic Aid Renewal spreadsheet via email from the Compliance Services Office. The deadline for fall and winter sports to submit 2014-2015 scholarship information to David Hall is April 4th. TIMELINE • • • • • Early March: Financial Aid Award Sheet is emailed to Head Coaches. • April 4st: Completed Financial Aid Award Sheets are returned to the Compliance Services Office (fall & winter sports). • May 1st: Final renewal/non-renewals Information due to Compliance Services Office (fall & winter sports). • June 1st: Renewal/Non-Renewal Letters are emailed to student-athletes or immediately after the end of the team’s season, whichever is later. June 15th: Appeal Deadline for Non-Renewals or 30 days after the date of the non-renewal letter. • Student-athletes may appear on radio shows, television appearances, participate in writing projects and other media activities related to athletics participation. There are a few pieces of information to keep in mind for student-athletes who are participating in media activities: Student-athletes can receive actual and necessary expenses related to media activities, but cannot receive more than actual and necessary expenses. Student-athletes cannot miss class for media activities, except for class time missed in conjunction with away from home competition during the playing season or for conference media days. Student-athletes may not endorse or promote any commercial product or service during the media activity. Student-athletes must be academically eligible in order to participate in media activities. Please contact the Shannon Wilson or Heidi Roche if you have any specific questions related to media activities. RULES OF THUMB It is strongly recommended that head coaches have conversations with each student-athlete on aid before the end of the academic year to communicate scholarship intentions for the following year. We strongly recommend that you document these conversations. GENERAL INFORMATION • • • NCAA requires that each student-athlete receiving an athletic scholarship be notified by July 1 each year whether their aid will be renewed for the following academic year. The Financial Aid Office prepares the electronic renewal/non-renewal letters for the studentathletes. NCAA rules provide student-athletes with the right to a hearing before a university financial aid committee if their athletics scholarship is reduced or cancelled for any reason. THE J u sA NSAER e ! t Wx ! compliance question of the month Is it permissible for OSU to provide Jane’s parents and grandparents with complimentary tickets to the game, so they can see their daughter be honored at halftime? YES! NCAA Bylaw 16.2.1.3.2 states Stanford may provide a maximum of four complimentary admissions to a student-athlete for a Stanford game or event during which a student-athlete is being honored but not participating, provided such complimentary admissions are used by the student-athlete's family members.
