Compliance Services Newsletter April 2014 2014-15 NEED BASED AID FOR RETURNING STUDENT-ATHLETES MAY 1ST COMMIT CARD PROCESS FOR NON-SCHOLARSHIP RECRUITS If you have a returning student-athlete who will be applying for need based financial aid, please note that the CSS Profile and FAFSA deadlines for the 2014-15 academic year are approaching. Please see below for relevant deadlines: All incoming student-athletes must complete the Stanford admissions’ online commitment process no later than May 1st, regardless of whether or not the incoming student signed a National Letter of Intent or athletic scholarship. Continuing Students CSS Profile (14-15) April 30, 2014 FAFSA Application (14-15) April 30, 2014 Tax Docs (2013 tax retuns, schedules, & W-2 forms) April 30, 2014 *Fax W-2 forms to Financial Aid Office After Thursday, May 1st, a sport program has to confirm with the Compliance Services Office that an incoming student-athlete has completed the online commitment process. Once confirmed, coaches may have unlimitted communication with those incoming student-athletes who have completed the commit card process but did not sign a National Letter of Intent. This includes unlimited phone calls and text messages as well as the ability to communicate publicly on social media. Also you may have unlimited contacts and evaluations. Lastly, media relations can post a press release on the athletics website regarding incoming walk-ons. Just Axe! compliance question of the month Ocean State University (OSU) softball team is competing in away from home games on Friday and Saturday. The games will be played in a DAPER staff member’s home town, so she would like for her two nieces to go watch. If the nieces have reached high school age, is it permissible for OSU to provide complimentary admissions? Please keep in mind that these exceptions are only for recruits who have completed Stanford’s online commitment process. For the applicable sports, all evaluations or contacts at a high school would count still as the once per week visit. Further any evaluations of additional prospective student-athletes would count toward the maximum. For example, if a coach evaluates a “confirmed commit” playing with his/her team, all other individuals on the team would be charged with an evaluation counting toward the maximum.
