After Thursday, May 1st, a sport program has to
confirm with the Compliance Services Office that an
incoming student-athlete has completed the online
commitment process. Once confirmed, coaches may
have unlimitted communication with those incoming
student-athletes who have completed the commit card
process but did not sign a National Letter of Intent.
This includes unlimited phone calls and text messages
as well as the ability to communicate publicly on social
media. Also you may have unlimited contacts and
evaluations. Lastly, media relations can post a press
release on the athletics website regarding incoming
walk-ons.
If you have an international student-athlete that will be

Just Axe!
compliance question of the month
Ocean State University (OSU) softball team is competing
in away from home games on Friday and Saturday.
The games will be played in a DAPER staff member’s
home town, so she would like for her two nieces to go
watch. If the nieces have reached high school age,
is it permissible for OSU to provide complimentary
admissions?
Please keep in mind that these exceptions are only
for recruits who have completed Stanford’s online
commitment process. For the applicable sports,
all evaluations or contacts at a high school would
count still as the once per week visit. Further any
evaluations of additional prospective student-athletes
would count toward the maximum. For example, if a
coach evaluates a “confirmed commit” playing with
his/her team, all other individuals on the team would
be charged with an evaluation counting toward the
maximum.
