Georgia pitcher Victoria Sink was named a third-team All-American by Daktronics. UNG’s Courtney Poole and USC Aiken’s India Kornegay were named an honorable mentions by the organization. Mercer, the two-time Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year led the conference in home runs with 22, slugging percentage at 1.045, and ranks second in batting average at .425. She is the national co-leader in home runs per game blasting her 22 in just 44 total games and ranks second in the nation for slugging percentage.The junior shortstop from Rincon, Ga., also set the single-season home run record for Armstrong while tying the Peach Belt Conference record - which she could break as the team plays in the NCAA Division II World Series beginning on Thursday. Walker makes her appearance on the All-America teams at the designated player position. The junior from Ooltewah, Tenn., boasted the best batting average in the Peach Belt with an impressive .442 and also led the conference with 54 runs batted in on the year. Her batting average was good for a 26th national ranking while her slugging percentage of .818 places her at 21st in the nation. Okvist earns All-America honors for the second time in her career, she was named to the NFCA first team in 2012. The senior outfielder broke the Peach Belt Conference career stolen base record this year and ranks 5th all-time nationally with 163 career stolen bases. The Kennesaw, Ga., senior ended her final season batting .435, which ranks second in the conference and she was also a PBC first-team selection. North Georgia’s Victoria Sink was named the Peach Belt Conference and the Daktronics Southeast Region Pitcher of the Year. The senior from Hoschton, Ga., rounded out her final campaign with a 24-2 record and tossed just the second 7-inning perfect game in PBC history this season. She led the conference in ERA 1.90 and was ranked 7th in strikeouts with 115. Young Harris’ Sydnee Weaver Named Softball Academic All-American! TOWSON, Md. – Young Harris College’s Sydnee Weaver has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division II Softball First Team as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Weaver becomes Young Harris’ third-ever student-athlete named to the first team for the prestigious program, joining men’s soccer’s Ilija Ilic and baseball’s David Atwood who were selected in 2013. Weaver, a 5-foot-6 junior outfielder from Sylvania, Georgia, led the Mountain Lions with a .396 batting average (63-of-159), 42 runs scored and 21 stolen bases, and .455 on-base percentage and was third with a .447 slugging percentage. The All-Peach Belt Conference second team performer added six doubles and a triple as Weaver drove in nine runs as a leadoff hitter. AIKEN – Graham Ramos and Thomas Berrycombined to drive in nine runs as the nationally second-ranked Lander Bearcats reached another new milestone in their historic season, beating the University of Montevallo 15-5 Sunday evening at USC Aiken’s Roberto Hernandez Stadium to win their first Peach Belt Conference Tournament baseball championship in school history. It was Lander’s 17th consecutive win. The Bearcats (47-6) received an automatic berth into the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the second time in school history though Lander had cemented its place in the field of 48 many victories ago. Lander will likely host the NCAA Southeast Regionals at Dolny Sta- seventh seed Montevallo. Ramos belted a three-run homer and two-run single while Berry added a two-run homer and two-run double as Lander extended its school record for victories in a season. The Bearcats won their first ever PBC regular season title two weeks ago. Montevallo ended its season at 31-21. The Bearcats have not lost since falling 6-1 to USC Aiken at Roberto Hernandez Stadium on April 5.
