The South Region features top-ranked and defending NCAA Division II national champion Barry out of the Sunshine State Conference.
No. 3-ranked Lynn, No. 6-ranked Nova Southeastern, No. 10-ranked
West Florida, No. 11-ranked North Alabama, No. 16-ranked Florida
Tech, No. 19-ranked Florida Southern and No. 24-ranked Saint Leo are
also in the field, giving the South/Southeast Regional a staggering 13
nationally-ranked teams out of the 20 participating schools. Rollins and
Gulf South Conference champion Delta State round out the 10 schools
representing the South Region.
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 19-23, at the Meadows Golf Course in Allendale,
Michigan. The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on
the regions represented in the prior year’s medal-match portion of the
championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The finals will be hosted by Grand Valley State.
Armstrong, USC Aiken Advance to NCAA Men’s Golf
Championship
Armstrong Atlantic State and USC Aiken both finished in a tie for third
place and earned spots in the NCAA National Championship as regional
play concluded on Wednesday at the Savannah Quarters Country Club in
Pooler, Ga.. Armstrong rallied with a final-round 287 while the Pacers
also improved with a 291 to capture spots in the final. The top seven
teams in the South/Southeast regional will play for the national championship May 19-23 at the Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich.
The Pacers finished with a three-round total of 876, 12-over par.
The squad finished eight strokes back of Barry, which claimed the region
title with a four-over par, 868. Nova Southeastern took the silver with
an 874. Rounding out the teams that earned a spot at the NCAA Championships were Lynn, Delta State and North Alabama.
Brandon Robinson-Thompson paced USC Aiken with a four-under
par, 212, which landed him the bronze medal. Robinson-Thompson
was under par in all three rounds – and wrapped up the tournament by
shooting a team-best 69 over the final 18 holes.
Kyle Godsman registered a two-under par, 214, for USC Aiken. His
solid effort all week allowed him to shoot par or better for all 54 holes.
Andrew Ward rounded out the tournament with a 225. After posting a
79 on Tuesday, Ward fired a 75 Wednesday despite windy conditions.
Gaines Milliner registered his best round of the tournament over
the final 18 holes. After shooting a 77-76 over the first 36 holes, Milliner tallied a 75 for his 228 on Wednesday. Hayden Letien completed the
tournament with a 231.
Individually, Florida Southern’s Tim Crouch shot a one-under-par
71 on Wednesday to claim medalist honors with a three-day six-underpar 210 total, one stroke better than Saint Leo’s Ryan Gendron, who fin

The host Pirates will be making their first trip to the national championships since Armstrong hosted the 2005 NCAA DII Men’s Golf National
Championships at the Westin Savannah Golf and Spa in Savannah, Ga.,
doing so by carding a one-under-par 287 in Wednesday’s final round.
Junior Travis Williamson led the Pirates indivdidually for the regional by
shooting a three-under-par 69 on Wednesday to finish tied for 10th with
a one-under-par 215 total. Senior Shad Tuten carded a 73 to finish tied
for 16th individually with a two-over-par 218 total.
Sophomore Howard Hickey shot an even-par 72 to finish tied for
23rd with a 221 total, while junior Cory Griffin shot a 73 to finish tied
for 29th with a 223 total. Senior Justin Wylie rounded out Armstrong’s
scoring with an 80 on Wednesday, finishing tied for 88th with a 237 total.
Flagler just missed getting a spot as they finished tied for ninth with
a final round 289. Spencer Schindler finished in a tie for third at four-under-par 212. Clayton State was 14th as Patrick Kim also finished tied for
third at 212. Columbus State was one spot behind in 15th while Georgia
College was 16th.
