Men’s Cross Country Georgia Regents, Flagler’s Mundy Win PBC Men’s Cross individual standings. For Georgia Regents, the title is their second overall men’s cross Country Championships AMERICUS, GA – For the first time in Peach Belt Conference history, two teams were tied after the running of the men’s cross country championships on Saturday. After applying the league’s tiebreaker, Georgia Regents won their second championship in the last three years, edging out Columbus State. UNC Pembroke finished third while Flagler was fourth and Georgia College fifth. Flagler’s Corey Mundy ran the fourth-fastest time in PBC championship history to win the individual champion award. The junior covered the 8k course in 24:29, breaking away from GRU’s Jaiden Brandt and Clayton State’s Job Kemboi over the final 250 yards. Brandt was second in 24:31, the sixth-fastest PBC time ever, while Kemboi was third in 24:58. Mundy, who was also the 2011 PBC Freshman of the Year, wins his third race of the season. Both GRU and CSU were tied with 47 points following the conclusion of the race, both teams placing three runners inside the top 10. The PBC tiebreaker compares the runners for both teams and awards a point to the team whose top runner finishes ahead of the other teams top runner, second runner to second runner and so on through the top five. GRU’s top runner finished second while CSU’s was fourth. GRU also got points with their #2 runner and #4 runner to take the title. Three of the five spots in the tiebreak were decided by one place in the final 8 2013-14 2013-14 country crown, the first coming in 2011 when the school was known as Augusta State University. The title is their third of the year. GRU’s Jaiden Brandt was named the PBC Runner of the Year in a vote of the league’s head coaches taken before the PBC Championship. Brandt finished in the top three in every race he has run this season. GRU’s Adam Ward was voted the PBC Coach of the Year. Ward claims the honor for the second consecutive year. He has also been named the PBC women’s coach of the year four times. UNC Pembroke’s Wilson Pearson was the top finishing freshman in Saturday’s race and was named the PBC Freshman of the Year. Pearson covered the 8k course in 25:37 and finished eighth overall. The top seven runners in Saturday’s race were named to the Peach Belt All-Conference team; the top seven runners were placed on the first team while 8th through 14th were second team.
