Cicely Woodard, eighth grade math teacher, sums up the school’s parent outreach strategy as a means to understanding the unique needs of every child. “Knowing where our kids are and being aware of them, not only academically, but socially—with their peers, with their home life—when you have all of that information, it gives you more power to relate to that child,” she said. As an open-lottery magnet, Rose Park takes students from all academic achievement levels from across Metro Nashville. What this translates to in the classroom is high expectations that students will grow regardless of their starting points.
