Sharpening Our Focus—A Message from the Board Chair Much as my predecessor did during his term, I believe ICPI’s focus is as critical today as it was four years ago: continue growing the industry’s industrial, municipal and commercial markets. The effort was formalized in 2008 where the association leadership acknowl- edged that to survive the current economic climate, expansion into other markets was critical. A key initiative is delivering the why and how message to specifiers, designers, engineers and government officials that concrete pavers are the pavement of choice. We continue to train our members’ sales staff, giving them the tools and knowledge to make calls in their regions and help us communicate that message. With construction forecasts staying level or slightly up for the next two years, ICPI members continue to position segmental paving systems to see growth as the economy gains ground in the com- mercial and municipal sectors. To this end, we have committed to increasing members’ sales in institutional, com- mercial and industrial markets from 21 to 50 percent over the next seven years with special emphasis on continued education of members’ sales force. We envision ICPI to continue providing the highest quality technical resources on segmental concrete pave- ments that educate and inform design professionals and municipal engineers of ICP and PICP benefits. Our mes- sage as an association continues to affirm segmental concrete pavements as the most sustainable solution among all pavement choices. My role as chair is obtaining membership consensus on the best delivery route for our message to municipal officials, specifiers and designers. My first year as chair has been focused on finding the most effective ways for us to communicate that message and help grow our businesses. Sincerely, Dave Carter ICPI Board Chair President, OAKS Concrete Products Mission The mission of the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute is to increase the application of segmental concrete pave- ment systems in North American commercial, institutional, governmental, industrial and residential markets. 2010–2013 Strategic Goals: Goal 1: Develop and implement a sustainability marketing plan for the institutional, commercial, and industrial markets.
