oboken-based Robert Jenny Design took on the
task of transforming this one-of-a-kind fourth floor
apartment in the Paulus Hook section of Jersey
City. The modern and stylish home, which now
boasts three bedrooms and three bathrooms,
sits within the much sought-after Pier House
Condominiums, located on the Hudson River waterfront.
Robert Jenny served as builder and designer liaison, working
with the homeowner and architect to add his personal touch
and make a number of clever and striking changes.
DINING ROOM AND
MEZZANINE-LEVEL BEDROOM
A major design goal of designer Robert Jenny, founder and creative
director, was to maximize space in the duplex by the installation of a
cantilevered steel beam, allowing an additional guest bedroom and
lounge area above the kitchen. The angular glass wall that looks into the
mezzanine-level bedroom enhances the open atrium concept, allowing
that level to communicate with the main floor below. Gray linen curtains
from The Shade Store can cover the glass wall to allow for privacy. In the
dining room, a Sputnik chrome chandelier hangs over a square four-seat table
alongside a recessed built-in bench. The
dining and living room white oak floors
boast a satin clear finish. A sliding glass
door leads to a patio that overlooks the
Hudson River, adding extra natural light
to the clean and bright dining room.
Adjacent to the upstairs guest
room is an open loft lounge area that
overlooks the living room. The area is
used mostly as a place to relax, but
concealed computer and printer
hookups were added in case a
workspace is needed.
