Local Favorites Sports Barre offers four different classes, each of which incorporates different props, techniques and varying degrees of dance cardio for a complete workout. And while each class is dance-based, you don’t need to know how to dance to join in. “We call our studio a judgment-free zone,” says DeAngelo, adding that it’s a place where women can “let their hair down and just have fun jumping around and sweating with friends.” While men are welcome to join, they note that the classes lend themselves more to women, so their clients are primarily female. Lambros and DeAngelo teach some classes themselves and have developed a vigorous training program for their trainers, all of whom are professional dancers, including a current Rockette and a dancer with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. “We create all the routines ourselves and we choreograph everything. We have a bible of content for our trainers to rotate through,” DeAngelo says, adding that Lambros has curated hundreds of musical playlists so classes never feel repetitive. “We believe fitness has to be fun to keep you captivated,” Lambros says. “Nobody wants to just be running on a treadmill…so all of our classes are designed to be exciting.” GETTING MORE THAN JUST A WORKOUT The fusion of dance techniques and athletics not only scorches calories, but promotes long, lean musculature and increased flexibility. Beyond the physical transformation, however, Lambros and DeAngelo believe their studio offers clients an important emotional benefit as well.
